What is the worst thing you can do to an idea? Do nothing with it!
Now, I don’t mean a passing thought or a daydream, I mean an actual idea.
I’ve done that, I’ve an idea, a plan, a structure, an objective, and I did nothing with it!
The idea would be better dying in the light than festering in the dark!
I need to be very clear there are ideas that need to be worked on in the study, they need weeks or years of grind before they go public, so long as you’re working at them they aren’t festering!
Here is my idea, one that is actually festering because I’m not doing it! I’ve written a series of blog posts on dyslexia (& writing with dyslexia) and another called ‘Hard Truths For Writers.” Both are very practical and the kinds of things I wish I’d known years ago! The idea is to turn the blog post / articles into videos.
I can make videos, I have the equipment, I’ve even a studio (black background hanging on a wall – basic but looks good). I’ve even the spare time for a pomodoro (a 25 minute block of time) per day for a week. Pomodoro 1 & 2 – script. Pomodoro 3 – rehearse. Pomodoro 4 – film. Pomodoro 5 & 6 – edit, make titles / graphics & upload.
We need to forget about making videos and think about the principal here – I have an idea, that I believe is a good idea and can help other people, and it is an idea that can easily move from being an idea to being a reality with the investment of a pomodoro (25 minutes) per day for one week.
So why don’t I do it? Resistance (as Stephen Pressfield puts it)! I can’t bring myself to choose to start. So this year I have chosen to start. I’ve decided to make the process as simple and seamless as possible (ie make doing it even easier!).
But more importantly I’ve started! And I will finally see if the idea works or not.
