Serendipity Strikes Again

‘By Bluidy Cairn’

So serendipity strikes again. Last week the battle of Culloden wasn’t high up on my list of things of interest. But now it is, well post battle changes are. My dyslexic mind loves juxtaposition, so a passing reference in a presentation I’m making, and an interesting fact someone happened to tell me, suddenly became a beguiling tale dancing about in my mind.

Their story was about recovery, while mine about loss, but both flowed from Culloden and the Highland clearances.

Now, this serendipity also possessed timing. I’d already been thinking about art: painting, drawing, etc, well I’d actually started tinkering with some artistic pieces. So now there’s lots of plates spinning!

Then serendipity gave me a poem, a Burns poem, one I had read, one I hadn’t understood because my reading had lacked context. Then the poem seamlessly flowed into eight unique artistic ideas.

So what now? Well, I’m going to develop the ideas up to good (smaller scale) prototypes. But maybe serendipity will produce a few more twists and turns along the way.
