“Robert Campbell is a distinctive Northern Irish voice, originally from East Antrim, with roots in Larne and Ballyclare, and now based in the North West. His writing journey is a fascinating blend of contrasts, showcasing a remarkable ability to craft both gritty, evocative poetry and prose and wonderfully innocent yet mischievous children’s stories.
His enchanting children’s books include “Sled Down,” “Captain Timmy and the Bobbing Barrel,” and “George and the Elephant,” delighting young readers with their playful narratives. Robert is also a dynamic force in the world of spoken word and storytelling. You might catch him bringing tales like “Captain Timmy and the Terrible Turnip” or “A Dander Through Narnia” to life, as many of his stories are specifically adapted for or written as vibrant live performances.
Beyond his captivating individual works, Robert has a deep passion for “story-making.” He’s successfully turned this into highly engaging workshops for schools and young adults, empowering them to discover their own creative voices. This dedication stems from his personal experience; having navigated and harnessed the unique creativity that comes with his own dyslexia, Robert is driven by a genuine desire to help others overcome challenges and unleash their inner storyteller. His approachable methodology and infectious enthusiasm make him a truly inspiring presence in the community writing scene.”

Brocht Ower

Brocht Ower (Brought Over) is the result of Robert’s personal quest to fill in the “huge blanks.” It is an illustrated journey that strips away the tired “them and us” politics to reveal a shared, ancient history. From the Kingdom of Dál Riata to Argyle — the “Coast of the Gaels,” Robert integrates the fragments of our past into a single, cohesive narrative. It is a story of a language that was strategically sidelined as only used by the “low and vulgar” but one that refused to die—a language that connects Ireland and Scotland in a centuries-old ebb and flow.
