George and the Elephant

George and the Elephant

Big people have disagreements every Christmas about certain films, are they a Christmas story or do they just happen at Christmas? Anyhow this story happens at Christmas; there is Santa and elves and Christmas trees and presents, so it must be a Christmas story, right? We’ll it probably is but its also a story about a little boy, a very unhappy little boy, a little boy whose life changes because he gets a very unusual Christmas present!

The little boy’s name is George, and George hates school, well, George hates school sort of, that is he isn’t very good at reading, that is he is really bad at reading, and George hates school because a lot of reading goes down at school.

George and the Elephant is Available Here

So George manages to sneak out an extra Christmas letter, and he gets what he asks for: an elephant! I’ll not tell you any more, that would spoil the story, but it was a pretty amazing present. Then, because of the elephant, and how George reacts to the elephant, things start to change, but I’ll say no more about that because again that would spoil the story!

The story doesn’t have a fairytale ending, that is “everyone lives happily ever after.”  But George is helped to look at life differently, and because of this he can see opportunities the he has to make decisions, to follow new paths, and to further change his perceptions. There is a happy ending, I think, but you’d better read the book to make sure!

If your child is little bit too young, or has trouble reading, or is dyslexic like George, though that never gets mentioned, you could read the book to them. You’ll both enjoy it. Or even if they can read it for themselves, you should still offer, they might let you!

Story Telling Abridgements

There are now two abridged versions of this story subtle for younger and older audiences.

One focuses on George, while the other focuses on Mr Elephant – but both stories takes the hearer on the same journey – but from a distinct perspective with a different emphasis.
