I’ve pulled one of my favourite books. George and the Elephant is no longer available!
The decision was… well really easy… because the book had never done well.
Obviously you want your books to sell — but the animus of the story never had the opportunity to flourish — which was the bit that actually annoyed me — and the reason I withdrew it from sale.
I got something wrong — over the years I thought I’d worked really hard to improve and promote it — but I hadn’t or at least not properly. I failed to take Matthew McConaughy’s advice — ‘don’t half ass it!’
I’m pretty good doing fine line ink drawings — but the book has no illustrations. I do story telling and have a good recording setup — but there isn’t an audio version!
Do you see where this is going? Aye… no more ‘half assing it!’ The book needs to be illustrated and recorded — it needs companion material and properly promoted. The one thing that doesn’t need updated is the text — I did that last year — and never used it.
Realistically this needs to be done by the end of the summer — or better still — long before that.
The first thing I’m going to do is read the story a lot and then go from there. So watch this space and I’ll keep you updated!
If you enjoy my work and have ever wanted to help out, would you consider buying me a coffee, joining me on Patreon, or buying a book? Doing what I love as a creative can be a bit of a balancing act, so your support means the world. Thanks for being here, and enjoy the post!
